Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise , Trade and Employment Ms. Mary Coughlan T.D., announced on Friday 27th February, that Intel will invest over €50 million in a major expansion, supported by Government through Shannon Development, at its Research and Development facility in the Shannon Free Zone in Co. Clare. The investment could grow Intel’s Shannon workforce by up to 134 new jobs over the next 4 years, bringing the total employment to approximately 300.
Congratulating Intel on their investment the Tánaiste said, “Knowledge is now the key to competitive advantage in smart economies. Growing the level of R&D investment by new and existing multinationals in Ireland is a key Government priority. Today’s investment announcement by Intel gives very real meaning to our ambition to develop Ireland ’s smart economy, and is a wonderful testament to the highly talented skills base at Intel Shannon.”
Welcoming the announcement Vincent Cunnane, Chief Executive Shannon Development said, “This major investment at the Shannon Free Zone is a further vote of confidence in Shannon as a competitive location for high tech knowledge based investment on a global scale. Following complete refurbishment and upgrading, suites in the iconic Rineanna House office bulding in Shannon are now available for lease. Nine separate suites in total are available for letting ranging in size from 117 sq m to 599 sq m.
Rineanna House is a five floor office facility and is located in a prime central location at the main entrance to the Shannon Free Zone. All suites are finished to a high standard and each is fitted with a kitchenette and server room, while the three ground floor suites are prefitted with separate meeting rooms or management offices. Externally the building has mature landscaping with car parking for 150 cars. The first lease has already been agreed, with strong interest expressed in others. A fully fitted-out and furnished show suite will shortly be available for viewing.
Zimmer Holdings Inc, a global leader in medical devices is establishing a new orthopaedic implant manufacturing project at Shannon. The Indiana USA Headquartered company a global market leader in knee and hip products is to invest €50m in the first two years. Supported by shannon Development, it will create 250 new high quality jobs over the next five years.
